A One Year Old Birthday Shoot and Taco Bash

A One Year Old Birthday Shoot and Taco Bash

Miss Lucy is one of our favorite little ones and we have loved and have been honored to be a part of her family’s development from the beginning.  We captured her parent’s engagement, their wedding, her growing presence in her mommy’s belly, Lucy’s birth and now her 1st birthday.

Lucy is a little cutie pie with lots of personality just like her mommy and daddy. She was also very patient with the many clothing changes her mommy put her through and loved playing with the toys I put out during her session.

We shot for about 1.5 hours, an unusual length for this age, as one year olds tucker out quickly, but Lucy was a trooper and with several snack breaks and a change in back drops and scenery every so often, she continued to be a delight.

The session culminated in a Taco Bash, an idea her mommy had as Lucy loves tacos.  So instead of doing a cake smash, we gave Lucy tacos to destroy.

She began by eating the sour cream and eventually got the hang of smashing the rest of the food.  This was a messy endeavor, but paid off with cute photos.

We are sharing a few here to clue you in on the fun we had.

We also decided that we should continue the tradition of putting Lucy into her mommy’s wedding gown, something we started when she was first born.  Lucy was not too sure what to make of that as you can tell by the two photos we are sharing here.

Call us today to schedule a consultation so we can plan your special one year old photoshoot.  One year olds are lots of fun and totally unpredictable.  We love working with them.

Indian Wedding Shoot

— 02/17/2017 by Monika Wertman —

In October it was suggested to us to participate in a styled wedding shoot, Indian style.  Several venues were bounced around and after a while it was settled that the Kamran Center close to Frederick would be the place to do this.

kamran center, indian wedding

We worked with three models, one male and two females, one of which we worked with before.  It was fun to experience the differences in wedding attire and to see first hand how long it takes to get wrapped into a Sari.

indian bride

While the guys are much more comfortable and it seems carefree in their wedding attire in the Indian tradition, the girls have it much harder, as the Sari tends to slip off the shoulder when they move and restrict they way they can walk etc.

indian couple

I can not even imagine dancing in one.

After this experience I will forever appreciate the ease in which a western bride gets into her gown and can move pretty freely depending on the style she chose.

indian couple

All in all this was an interesting experience and we did get some great shots from our great models.  Both ladies are gorgeous and witnessing them being transformed into fairy tale creatures was fun.

We are currently organizing a western wedding shoot for March, again working with JB Bridals and if you are interested in participating in that, please read last week’s model call posted here.

What to ask when you interview Wedding Photographers

— 01/31/2017 by Monika Wertman —

What questions should you ask when you interview a wedding photographer?

couple car to back nuzzling

This week we will focus on what you should look for in a studio while you are looking at who will be the best fit for you.

Whether you found the list of photographers in front of you through a Google search, a bridal show or recommendations from friends, look over the studio’s website before you call to see if you like their style.

If you do, reach out to them either through email or a phone call and set up an appointment to talk to them. Whether they list a starting cost or not, whether the starting cost seems outside of your budget or not, set up an appointment. You never know what they include in their price until you talk to them, and you may be surprised to find that they include it all, making the cost a practical one.

When you meet with them, make sure that you and your fiancé both go if at all possible.

When meeting with a wedding photographer, pay attention to the following:

Is the photographer you are meeting with friendly and approachable?

If you meet them at their studio, what does the artwork hanging on the walls look like? Studios hang their best work on their walls.

Is the person you are meeting with at least one of the photography team or a sales person?

Do they listen to you and ask you questions, or do they launch right into the sales pitch.

What do they include in their price? Is it just a few hours and a CD, or are products such as an album included?

Do they shoot alone or do they use a team? If they use a team, do they charge extra for the second shooter?

Do they offer to help you plan your wedding day and work with your vendors, or will you sign with them and not see them until your wedding day?

Are they pushy and demand you sign now or you will loose them, or do they give you time to think?

first look with door in between

Feel free to take this list with you to help you remember what to look for when talking to photography studios.

In our next email, we will give you some tips on what questions to ask before you sign on the dotted line.

Why Wertman Photography for your Wedding Day

— 01/12/2017 by Monika Wertman —

Congratulations! You just got engaged!

So, why hire Wertman Photography for your wedding day?

Now that the initial excitement has settled it hits you that you have a wedding to plan. Like most women, you have likely been planning this event in your head since you were a little girl, but reality is just a wee bit more overwhelming than a little girl’s dreams.  Here at Wertman Photography we will help you feel less overwhelmed by taking the worry out of preserving your wedding day memories.

engaged couple

For your wedding day, three things are of the utmost importance. The groom, you have found him, your dress, that could still be a hurdle to overcome, and your wedding photographer. These three are on the top of the list for obvious reasons. The venue, the ceremony space, food and entertainment rank high as well, but let’s face it, everyone is going to remember what you looked like in your dress and if you and your fiancé looked happy. For the two of you, the ceremony, the venue and the party will be memories that will seem fleeting and a bit vague and that is why your photographer needs to rank right after your dress.

uptown bride

Your photographer is in charge of preserving those special moments your wedding day is made up of.

bride and groom

She is the one you will turn to to capture another moment you thought may not happen and as long as you hire the right person, she will have already captured that shot. A good wedding photographer will be everywhere the day of the wedding. We always hear: “Wow, I don’t even remember that we did this”, or ” Wow, we never made it over to that area, thanks so much for preserving this moment.”

bride and flower girl

Here at Wertman Photography we pride ourselves in becoming your best friend over the year in between you signing with us and your wedding day. We help you plan your day, create a time line for you, go over who is going to be in pictures both at the ceremony and at the reception and best of all, you can trust that we will create artwork for your walls that will stand the test of time.

bridal portrait

All of our wedding collections include an engagement session. We help you plan that session, from wardrobe, to location, season and styling. We will create artwork for your walls that will compliment your wedding day wall art and we give you many options from an engagement guestbook to safe the dates that will further aid in planning your wedding day.

love and engagement

All of our collections also include a beautiful leather album, sizes depend on your collection, but each album is crafted with care from the design to the finished product. We help you choose the images that will tell your wedding day story perfectly.

With Wertman Photography you will not only get all day coverage from two photographers, but a guiding hand in planning your big day. Fun and Talented High School Seniors

— 12/02/2016 by Monika Wertman —

We had some fun and talented High School Seniors this year.  For the first time ever, we also had seniors late into fall, which made for an interesting journey into colors, leaves, cool weather and locations.

Here is looking back at some of the fun we had and some of our favorites from this year.  We spanned the interests these young adults had as well, giving us an opportunity to play with some new ideas as well as explore what makes these students tick.

There was Jake, a Criminal Justice major at our local technical high school.  He also plays lacrosse but plans to go into law enforcement so we reached out to our friends at the police to arrange for some unique photos.

senior law enforcement

Jake also loves his pooch, so we incorporated his pet into the session as well.

Showcasing both his love for his major in high school and his love for lacrosse led to this image:

Then we had Amanda who plays several sports, balancing her love for sports with her academics and who had several ideas of what she wanted out of her session, something we always discuss in our consultations and implement as much as we can, giving it our own unique twist.

senior girl soccer softball

Amanda is a very pretty young lady and we felt that we should showcase that as well as her athleticism.

senior girl

And then we also created a composite for Amanda as she is also in the marching band at her high school.

One more as it is our favorite from this session:)

Another male soon-to-be graduate we worked with this fall wanted to go hike to Wolf Rock, described to us as a walk, that turned into quite an adventure as I discovered that wearing heels was not very practical as we had to actually hike up a mountain for this session.

This young man also had his own ideas and we took advantage of what nature supplied.

senior guy

Another one of our girls this year is an artist and we showcased this both in studio and out at a local park as well as downtown.  Here are some of our favorites from this lovely young lady’s session:

Jimmy is a theatre student at our local Performing arts high school and was a lot of fun to work with.  His session was off the cuff, as he did not originally want to get his senior pictures done and followed mom’s lead when she made him do it.  We had a lot of fun improvising his session and got some great shots out of it.

senior theatre student

The following image is at the old YMCA building downtown he used to swim at as a child.  Sweet memories.

And this in the back of Barbara Ingram School of the Arts, his high school.

Another favorite from this fall is the following sweet gal, also a theatre student at BISFA, Bailey, who was wonderful to work with.  Her acting talent was very apparent and we had a hoot working with her.

senior girl actress

Our local theatre was gracious and let us use the space for the first half of our session.  The folks at the Maryland theatre are always great to us.

senior girl actress

We then travelled up to Bedford, PA for outdoor pictures and a place Bailey’s family is very fond of.  We love exploring new places and this one was a gem.

Our last senior for this fall is a young musician, also at BISFA.  He plays the tuba, sax and flute and is a very enthusiastic musician who was open to great ideas and willing to give everything I suggested a try.  This was a treat for us as he was the first classical musician I had ever worked with and the first one who plays wind instruments.  This session was a fun adventure.

I hope you have enjoyed our look back at some of our favorite seniors from this year.  Please vote for your favorite image.  The winning senior will receive a magnet of their favorite image and you will be added to a drawing for a free family session for up to 5 people just for voting.  What could be better?

Call us today for a free consultation to find out how we can customize a session of any kind for you and yours.  We will be glad to work with you.  301-693-3021
